80/20

You know what I hate. I hate love movies. Why do you say? Not because I hate love. I adore love. But what I do hate is the Hollywood magical representation of what love is. That two people can meet and they just click perfectly and nothing ever goes wrong. That as long as you wish on a star or throw a quarter in a fountain that whatever is wrong with a relationship with cosmically be corrected and the two will live happily ever after.

You know what love is in my world. Love is work. Lots of work, sweat, tears, and pain. Do you know how hard it must be to wake up every morning to my ass? Can you imagine out of all the people in the world you could end up with growing up to know you are stuck with me for the rest of your NATURAL LIFE!!! Its hard. Love is separate from passion, and lust, and desire, and intrigue. Love don't make you wake up in the morning and have starts in your eyes and see the most beautiful woman in the world. Being human makes you wake up and see an unshaven, graying, balding father or two who always has drool crust down the same side of his mouth. Every morning, every time without fail. Do you know how angry that must make a person. To see the same mofo with the same stubble and the same crust every damn morning?

So before everyone out there thinks I'm so anti I'll ask and answer the underlining question of this blog. What is love? Love is getting up every morning and seeing your greatest ally in life. Love is getting home at night and seeing that person and giving him or her a big kiss and hug. Because you missed them? Of course you missed them but thats not why. You hug and kiss them because you know THEY MISSED YOU. And you comfort them to let them know the pain is over for today. Love is being so angry with someone that you could spit and throw every pot and pan, plate and glass out the window and at the wall. But instead you sit down and look them in the eye and go, "How can we fix this?". Love is knowing that two souls are meant to grow together, not apart and despite themselves. Love is knowing that when the world kicks you in the mouth and shovels a foot of dirt on you that they got a shovel and some Band-Aids for you. Love is having someone's back. Not because you want them to have yours, but because that is YOUR BACK TO.

A wise guy and lady told me the same thing the same week recently for no apparent reason. That relationships and marriage is all about 80/20. Meaning the person you have that makes you happy is made up of roughly 80 percent of everything you want in a person. But the stuff that gets you motor running and interest peaked is usually that additional 20 percent. And most times when that person goes for that 20 percent they see in someone else they realize that they left 80 percent behind. Long and short is, its a lot easier to get 80 percent close to 90 percent from time to time than to get 20 percent anywhere close to 50. Nuff said.

Morning With the Kids

If 5 years ago you would have told me I would be spending my mornings like this I would have said you were crazy. Now I can't imagine living any other way.

Back on the Crack

Image413Well I couldn't fight it anymore. The work Treo wasn't syncing with my e-mail and started loosing calls. So I had to, as horrible as it sounds, take back the BlackBerry.

The worst thing about a BlackBerry is that it works. I've already caught up on all my e-mails from the past couple days. Been making calendar events on the fly. Looked at my to-do list for the first time in weeks (been getting so many tasks haven't had time to review). Its just that I'm too up-to-date. The damn thing vibrates more than a massager on a quite Friday night.

Also sucks that the BlackBerry 8703e that I'm using doesn't have a memory card slot, no media player, and no mp3 ringtones or bluetooth sending of files (thanks VerizonWireless). Luckly its for work so I don't mind that much. If the Android doesn't come out this year I may end up getting a first gen Perl as my phone till it comes out. I'm playing for a data plan and mobile Internet anyway so the BlackBerry plan won't be any more expensive. Just don't know if I can handle being that up on my personal e-mail as well.

Busy day

At least there are no storm warnings

Uninterupted Power

One thing these storms we've been having in Maryland has taught me is this summer I need a UPS.

Storms are going to take out my power. But if I could put my essentials on backup power, I can stay on the net for a time in the quiet darkness. The way I figure it, putting my cable modem, router, and access point on a decent sized UPS should keep me up for about 45 minutes at least. So while the rest of the block tries to play cards in the dark I'll be Plurking and Blogging. That is between going to Sesame Street Videos. Gotta do what I gotta you you know.

Old Guy

So I'm walking the dog with my oldest yesterday after work. The neighborhood kids love to come up to Jasmine and pet her. Since their kids I hold the dog and let them pet her. No big deal.

Well one if my neighbor's kids comes up, pets the dog, and asks Why do you have Trey out? I go because he wanted to walk the dog. She responds by asking Why do you have gray hair in your eyebrow? Yeah, read it over a couple times if you don't believe it. Of course totally defeated because you can be only so smart back to a five year old I go because I'm getting old baby girl. And as if this exchange can't get worse she says I didn't know you were getting old.. This left me left only to say it happens baby girl, its happens.

Luckly that pretty much filled my depression quota for the day. Silver Lining right?

Lunch Time

Mini fridgeI don't know about you, but gas is killing me. Especially since the price of gas has double in the last year and tripled over the last two. So for right now the days of Sushi once a week are over and I've had to adapt.

The long and short is this little fridge is saving my life. Or at least my belly. While not very big it can hold a pound of turkey slices, a squeeze bottle of creamy horseradish sauce, and a squeeze bottle of honey mustard. The result along with some sandwich wraps makes for an affordable lunch for a week or more. Cool huh. All to an easy bake looking fridge. And as for not being able to get my weekly Sushi anymore all I can say is DAMN YOU BUSH!!!

A healthy breakfast on the drive to work

I am so late

Plurk

Picture 8

Dang this Twitter addiction!!! As I was going through yet another Twitter outage I decided to check out yet another micro blogging Twitter like site that I heard Tweeted about by fellow Tweeters Veronica Belmont ( Tech Video Host Superstar ) and TheJennTaFur (my favorite socially conscious blogger/Tweeter). Its called Plurk.

First thing you'll notice is Plurk is pretty. Yes I know that is a very technical description. Please forgive cause its 2:22 AM and I shouldn't be up anyway. The look and feel of the site does draw you in though. Also, Plurks are put on a timeline that you can scroll back and forth on. Very different from other sites like Twitter and Pownce. Since I'm starting to fade and my writing ability is limited anyway here are some other highlights.

Media SharingPicture 10

Using sites like Youtube and Flickr you can share pictures and videos. Thumbnails of the objects even appear in your Plurk.

Grouped ResponsesPicture 11
Instead of having to track every friend and guess if they are responding to your Plurk, replies are grouped together. Yes I know Twirl and even Twitterfox have tabs for direct replies, but for the web version this is cool and clean.

Minuses

Plurk is new. VERY NEW!!! So all features are always up. Also, I didn't see a text option when is really easy to get use to on Twitter. Most of all, the suggest use policy is light years more restrictive than the talk about anything often Twitter approach. But I must say its cool enough to at least give a try. Will be interesting to see how it grows. Oh, and cool profile summary's always help lol. Hit me up if you want to try it out.

Wild Man Chris

Image383Wild man Chris is at it again. This time he decided to do some performance art on a value pack of toilet paper. Pretty huh. Yeah this has been a weekend to remember for the little terror. Didn't help that his aunt gives him half a Klondike Bar before bed. Gotta love those aunts.

Riding My Bicycle

Image382Call me corny but I saw this outside of the Target by me and it made sense like few things have ever had in my life. I have to get this. So my summer project and workout regime is as follows:

  • Bike
  • Nothing gets you healthy like a good bike ride

  • Kiddy Cab
  • I get a workout and the kids get to get out and have a ride in the fresh air. Fun huh?

  • MP3 Player and Battery Powered Speakers
  • Nothing says fun like Barney and Sesame Street Song along the way.

  • DVD Player
  • For those extra long cardio workouts. Kids get to see Thomas and Friends a couple three times and not get too bored.

I think this is just crazy enough to work.
